I Was a Guest on Daily Dealer Live — Here's What We Talked About (And Why It Matters)

Watch: 3 practical AI use cases from our dealership floor

On March 30th, I had the opportunity to join Sam D'Arc on Daily Dealer Live — the Car Dealership Guy podcast's live show — to talk about something I've been pretty deep in for the past several months: AEO, GEO, and what the shift to AI-powered search actually means for car dealers.

I've been a longtime listener of the CDG podcast, so being on the other side of the conversation was surreal in the best way. Sam runs a tight show, and the audience is sharp — these are operators who actually care about where the industry is headed, not just where it's been.

    So what did we cover?

The core of our conversation was around a simple but urgent question: Is your dealership showing up when someone asks an AI where to buy a car?

Most dealers know about SEO. But Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) are different animals. AEO is about structuring your content so AI tools can extract and serve your answers directly. GEO is about building the kind of authority and citation-worthiness that gets your dealership referenced inside AI-generated responses — on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and beyond. In short: AEO gets you in the answer. GEO gets you trusted as a source.

The uncomfortable reality I shared: most dealers have no idea how AI is describing their store to potential buyers right now. That's a problem, because AI is already forming opinions about your dealership whether you're managing it or not — pulling from your Google Business Profile, DealerRater, BBB, Cars.com, Reddit, and more.

What I've been building at BMW of Bridgewater

This started for me out of necessity, not strategy. A staffing gap in our service BDC forced me to build a voice agent just to keep up with inbound calls. That one build cracked open a door I haven't closed since.

From there I developed this website AEO Whisper — it runs dozens of queries daily across ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini to track how dealerships appear in AI search results compared to our competitors. What I found was eye-opening. Gemini leans heavily on Google ratings and review volume. Grok pulls from DealerRater. Reddit surfaces across almost all of them. The platforms don't all drink from the same well, and if you don't know your exposure on each one, you're flying blind.

I also built a custom GPT trained on BMW's full 187-page warranty manual — named it after our warranty admin, who was constantly getting pulled off her actual work to answer coverage questions. Now the whole dealership has access to it via a free ChatGPT login. Other dealers I know use it as well.

Why I'm talking about this publicly

Honestly, I'm not hoarding any of this. The dealers who win in the AI era are going to be the ones who start now, not the ones who wait for a vendor to package it for them. AI has gotten so good so fast that if you played with it a couple years ago and wrote it off, it's time to go back.

My advice is the same I gave on the show: go on Claude or ChatGPT, start asking questions about your own dealership, and see what comes back. That's your baseline. Work from there.

I'm looking forward to coming back on Daily Dealer Live as a guest again — I feel like we're just getting started on this conversation. If you watched the episode or want to connect on any of this, feel free to reach out at aeowhisperer@gmail.com
